V is for VOLCANO!!!

Today, while we waited for all of our friends to arrive, the kids got to pick out pictures of different letters of the alphabet, then they would put that on a cookie sheet and use pom-poms with magnets on them to cover all the dots on the pictures! It was super fun! Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of that..... sorry :(

After circle time, Miss Kristen talked to us about he letter V and different words that start with V.

Then we headed to the table, where she showed us how to write the letter V. And we all practiced writing on our paint bags!

Then, it was on to learning about VOLCANOES!
We cut a volcano shape out of a paper bag.

And as we glued them onto our paper, Miss Kristen taught us about different parts of a volcano. The dent in the top of the volcano is the hole called a vent. It is the opening where things come out of it.
We glued on cotton balls to represent the ash that shoots out of volcanoes.
And red tissue paper to be the lava!

Next we got to watch some neat videos showing us real volcano eruptions!

We learned how the lava is actually called magma when its in the volcano, and then its called lava when it comes out. It is SUPER HOT. And when it cools, it turns into a black rock!

Next, we made our own volcanoes by molding playdough up around a cup on a plate.

After snack time, we got to see the awesome things we can do with our volcanoes.....
This, was definitely the highlight of the day!

Miss Kristen put some baking soda into the cup of the volcano she had made and then let he kids take turns pouring VINEGAR onto the baking soda.

You should have seen their reactions.....
 .....as the volcano bubbled inside....

 ....and erupted over the top!

They loved it so much! Everyone got to take two turns making the volcano erupt.

They wanted to do it again, but we had to let Miss Kristen do the last BIG eruption since we ran out of baking soda!

Each of the kids got to take home their own volcano to demonstrate to their families!
Remember, dump a bunch of baking soda into the cup. Then pour vinegar in and watch the fun! For a different twist, add some red or orange food coloring to the vinegar!

To finish off the day, we switched gears and talked about Valentine's day!
Lydia helped us read a book about Mouse making valentines for all of his friends.

Then we marched back to the table....
 ....to decorate our valentines boxes!

Everyone did great. And we are all excited for our Valentines Day Party on Thursday!
